WORSHIP
Central to who we are is worship. We have a conviction that worship is God's primary call on his people and that everything else we do flows from it. Our understanding is that worship has to do with the whole of our lives, 7 days a week not just when we gather on a Sunday morning. Worship is about loving God in the mainstream of life and we believe that we are to live joined-up lives, where our Monday to Saturday existence is joined up to what happens at church gatherings.
Worship can be offered in various ways and we do not see our way as the only or the best way - we have lots to learn from other Christian traditions.
MISSION
As disciples of Jesus we are called to mission. Mission isn't just what we do, it's who we are. The basic New Testament message to believers is to be who you already are in Christ. On that basis, each of us is in full time service and every new day provides an opportunity to be salt and light whoever and wherever we are. Jesus' great commission was not 'tell people to come to church' it was "Go into all the world....". The word 'Go' is important for it is fundamental to who we are as disciples of Jesus.
We are involved in running:
Inter-church Alpha courses, http://uk.alpha.org/, in collaboration with St Andrew Blackadder, Abbey Church and Dirleton Kirk;
Healing on the Streets;
Inter-church Healing Rooms, http://www.healingrooms-scotland.com/ , in collaboration with friends from St Andrew Blackadder.
COMMUNITY
We recognise that God has eternally existed in community. In other words, Father, Son and Spirit are not a heavenly committee which meets to discuss various eternal issues. They are a trinity, not three gods in one person but one God in three persons. God is community and the ultimate model for community life. As a church we aspire to experience community - it's all about relationships and this is one of the reasons we have small groups which meet mid-week. The small group is not intended to be a replica of our Sunday morning gathering - the small group provides a context for the developing and deepening of relationships.
