Foreign Fields
Our overseas connections are mainly focused on three nations;
UGANDA
We enjoy a long-standing relationship with Dr Jan White, a GP formerly from Oxford, who is based in Mbale, Uganda were she and her teams run a clinic and hospice. We have an annual visit from Jan and she has won our hearts. She is a woman of true faith and obedience and we esteem her very highly, both for who she is and what she has achieved. Jan's British church in Witney, Oxfordshire are extremely supportive and we like to do the same.
CHINA
The church has a long standing friendship with a couple who are based in Yunnan Province, China.
RWANDA
In 2008 we set up a separate charitable body called 'Rwanda School Aid'. For many years we have had a link with the Kingdom Education Centre in Kigali - a primary school with over 700 pupils. One of our newer members, Allan Walker, had a dream of taking young people from East Lothian on a life changing adventure. At the time, Allan was unaware of our history and relationship with the school in Kigali, but his dream was fulfilled in July 2009. After an intense period of fund-raising a group of 15 young people (and five adults) from the North Berwick area visited the school in Kigali and turned the concrete playground into a safe educational facility which had been the heart's desire of the school head.
We now have a link with 4 schools in the Kigali area and at the time of writing are discussing what should happen next. We are convinced that there is more to do. Several Fellowship members are sponsoring school children at the Kingdom Education Centre.
In September 2009 one of the Rwanda School Aid directors (Peter Dornan) completed a sponsored cycle journey from Land's End to John O'Groats (977.6 miles!) raising almost £10,000 for Rwanda School Aid.
